The Star-Spangled Banner, written by John Stafford Smith with lyrics by Francis Scott Key, is the national anthem of the United States of America. The tune is based on a popular British song by Smith, written for the Anacreontic Society in London. Having a range of an octave and a fifth, The Star-Spangled Banner is notoriously difficult to sing. It is a quintessential display of American patriotism to sign this at the top of your lungs, so take a deep breath!

What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,

Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
