Learn how to play Funkin’ Groovy on piano with this Synthesia piano tutorial! Please enjoy!

In the far reaches of Downunderland, a Mage and Master of Funk approached Andrew and Sam in a shared dream. To them he spoke thusly:

Samdrew, your journey through life will be long and fruitful and very funky, but it will not be easy. You must pass the Funk Trials of Three, requiring you to create three original funk arrangements in varying degrees of difficulty and groove. Do not search for me when you have completed the piece. Just post it on youtube and I will come to you.

…and so Samuel and Andrew set off in search of the funkiest grooves they could find, for they did not want to disappoint their new master…. this is the first of the three Funk Trials.. will the Master be pleased? Will he approach them in their dreams once more?

Tune in next time to find out!

Learn how to play Marcha Real (National Anthem of Spain) by Manuel de Espinosa de los Monteros on piano with this Synthesia piano tutorial! Please enjoy!

Marcha Real (Royal March) is the national anthem of Spain. The music for Marcha Real was written by Manuel de Espinosa de los Monteros in 1761 and later orchestrated by Bartolomé Pérez Casas in 1908. It was officially adopted in 1770 and has appeared in several versions, including it’s original title “La Marcha Granadera” (“March of the Grenadiers”). Although some believe it to have been composed by Frederick II of Prussia, this is a misconception that stemmed from the anthem being published in La España militar (Military Spain) in 1861. Marcha Real is an excellent national anthem that sounds fantastic on piano! This piano arrangement is perfect for pianists of an intermediate technical level or above (grade 4+ ABRSM, Trinity, AMEB).

Lyrics:
Viva España,
gloria de tradiciones,
con la sola ley
que puede prosperar.

Viva España,
que es madre de Naciones,
con Dios, Patria, Rey
con que supo imperar.

Guerra al perjuro
traidor y masón,
que con su aliento impuro
hunde la nación.

Es su bandera
la historia de su gloria;
por ella dará
su vida el español

Fe verdadera
que en rojo de amor
aprisiona briosa
un rayo de sol.

Lyrics:
Superstition, fear and jealousy

Dead I am the one, exterminating son
Slipping through the trees, strangling the breeze
Dead I am the sky, watching angels cry
While they slowly turn, conquering the worm

Dig through the ditches
And burn through the witches
And slam in the back of my Dragula [x2]

Dead I am the pool, spreading from the fool
Weak and want you need, nowhere as you bleed
Dead I am the rat, feast upon the cat
Tender is the fur, dying as you purr

Dig through the ditches
And burn through the witches
And slam in the back of my Dragula [x2]

Do it baby, do it baby
Do it baby, do it baby
Burn like an animal

Dead I am the life, dig into the skin
Knuckle crack the bone, 21 to win
Dead I am the dog, hound of hell you cry
Devil on your back, I can never die

Dig through the ditches
And burn through the witches
And slam in the back of my Dragula [x2]

Do it baby, do it baby
Do it baby, do it baby
Burn like an animal

Dig through the ditches
And burn through the witches
And slam in the back of my Dragula [x3]

F-A-D-E-D is a beautiful piano piece by Rafał Bienias, exploring the “F-A-D-E-D” motif (each letter refers to a pitch in the motif). This emotional and pensive work will transport you to a fantasy world, where everything you know starts to fade away into the ether. This would be an excellent piece to play in a recital, or to friends.

F-A-D-E-D is of upper intermediate to advanced level difficulty, so pianists of approximately Grade 6 (AMEB, ABRSM, Trinity, etc.) and above ability would be best suited to learn this piece.

Dancing Queen is one of the best-known songs by Swedish Europop group ABBA. From their 1976 album “Arrival”, it was a hit worldwide, as well as ABBA’s first and last number one hit in the United States. The song’s disco style, inspiring other bands to follow the trend. With a beautiful melody, Dancing Queen features instrumental hooks and lyrics about going to the discotheque, with a little more emotional content than other disco songs.

Fun fact! Dancing Queen was given the first International Standard Music Work Code, T-000.000.001-0 in 1995. Anni-Frid Lyngstad (one of the singers of Abba) also performed Dancing Queen at Swedish Queen Silvia’s 50th birthday in 1993, and the Swedish Prime Minister was in the audience.

This arrangement by Andrew Wrangell is approximately grade 6 level. It’s a great song and sure to be a fantastic repertoire choice at a concert given how popular it is!

Lyrics:
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, digging the Dancing Queen

Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for the place to go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to look for a king
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music’s high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
You’re in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance…

You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, digging the Dancing Queen

You’re a teaser, you turn ’em on
Leave them burning and then you’re gone
Looking out for another, anyone will do
You’re in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance…

You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, digging the Dancing Queen
