The Imperial March was composed by John Williams for Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. It was premiered prior to the release of the film in 1980, just three weeks before the film opened in cinemas. Now known as one of the most recognisable pieces of film music ever composed, The Imperial March is a leitmotif used to represent Darth Vader, and is sometimes known as “Darth Vader’s Theme”. The Imperial March appears throughout other Star Wars films too, in the prequel trilogy and in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, as well as making several appearances in the later additions to the franchise.
