Learn how to play Nocturne in Cm (Posthumous) by Frederic Chopin on piano with this Synthesia piano tutorial! Please enjoy!

The Nocturne No. 21 in C minor, Op. posth. is a musical work for solo piano written by Frédéric Chopin in 1837. It was the last of Chopin’s nocturnes to be published, and was done so posthumously in 1860. It is famous for its striking simplicity and folk-like melody. Among the 21 nocturnes known to have been written by Chopin, this is one of the three that end in a minor key. The composition is structured as a single movement marked Andante sostenuto, meaning it is to be played a little slower than a walking pace.

Learn how to play Prelude in E minor Op. 28 No. 4 by Frédéric Chopin on piano with this Synthesia piano tutorial! Please enjoy!

Prelude Op. 28, No. 4 by Frédéric Chopin is one of the 24 Chopin preludes and is arguably one of his most melancholic. By Chopin’s request, this piece was played at his own funeral, along with Mozart’s Requiem. So many years after its composition the emotion still translates perfectly to anyone who hears it. It has been covered many times and featured in almost as many films and TV shows over the years, such as The Pianist (2002), The Notebook (2004), and The West Wing, also being discussed in depth by Benjamin Zander in his efforts to persuade people that classical music is enjoyable by everyone (TED2008). Featuring an easy but powerful melody and relatively easy left hand chord changes, this song is a cinch to learn. Put this song in your repertoire and pull it out when you need to fill a room with emotion.

Learn how to play Prelude Op. 28 No. 15 “Raindrop” by Frédéric Chopin on piano with this Synthesia piano tutorial! Please enjoy!

Prelude Op. 28, No. 15 is one of 24 preludes written by Frédéric Chopin, this one being written partially during Chopin and George Sand’s stay at a monastery in Valldemossa, Majorca in 1838. While preludes are usually between five and seven minutes, this prelude is Chopin’s longest. “Raindrop” is so named due to the repeating A♭, which some say suggests the gentle patter of raindrops. The piece begins very peacefully in D♭ major before switching to a darker, more sinister C♯ minor portion, which is then redeemed by the D♭ major once again, all the while maintaining the ever present A♭/G♯ throughout the piece. This arrangement offers great practice for those looking to become more comfortable playing the black keys and is sure to please any listener.
